Isabelle Gougenheim grew up in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, France, surrounded by the traditions of cartography and metal scraping. From an early age, she learned to appreciate the beauty in overlooked materials and the value of reusing what others might discard. These formative experiences have deeply influenced her approach to art, where resilience and resourcefulness are key themes.

After graduating from Les Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, Isabelle spent six transformative months living with the Berber tribes in Morocco. Immersed in their culture, she developed a profound respect for traditional crafts and the creative use of available resources. This experience continues to guide her work today, inspiring her to see potential in materials that others might overlook.

Following 25 years in the furniture industry, Isabelle fully embraced her passion for art. Her travels and cultural encounters have shaped her practice, often leading her to incorporate diverse materials—whether found, repurposed, or newly created—into her artwork. These materials, combined with her distinctive use of bright, vibrant colors, bring energy and life to her creations.

In her work, Isabelle explores the intersection of tradition and innovation, blending techniques, materials, and bold color palettes in a way that reflects both continuity and change. The connections between people, places, and histories are central to her art, as she seeks to weave together different experiences and influences.

Through her art, Isabelle aims to transform memories and materials into new stories, using vibrant colors and diverse textures to create pieces that are both visually striking and deeply meaningful.
